Home > Tours in Riga > Riga Jewish Sites Tour

Before World War II Jews played a very important role in Latvian society. Many of them contributed into the country's development. Under German Nazi occupation almost 90 percent of Latvian Jews were murdered. Also harsh repression during Russian Soviet period made their life very difficult. We would like to take you on a tour that will give you a chance to see the way Jewish community existed during the centuries.

We will go to Bikernieki memorial - graveyard for around 35 thousand people who were slaughtered here in Bikernieki Forest between 1941-1944. On our way will be also the area of former Jewish Ghetto, Ghetto Museum and memorial and ruins of Great Choral Synagogue which was burned down on July 4, 1941, with 300 Jews locked in the basement. Today in Riga there is only one functioning synagogue - Peitav Shul Synagogue which will also be included in the program of our tour.
